After the best season that the Club has ever had we were promoted to the Third Division.
We have also been busy during the summer months and made a few changes off the field with a 3 year sponsorship deal with NETPark the local Technology Park based here in Sedgefield.
So a Club name change to Sedgefield NETPark F.C and a fantastic new Club strip and jackets to at least look the part.
Some of the Clubs players will be participating in some local school trips to help NETPark promote the science by linking it to football.
The Club would like to thank Catherine Johns and John Hildreth from CDDC for all their effort in helping us gain this sponsorship deal.
We are also back playing from the Crosshills pub. After a few years of seeing our favourite local boozer turn into a bit of a morgue we are very pleased to welcome Phil Preston and Salvatore Pinna to the village.
Hopefully they'll get this pub back on track, good luck lads.
The Club first played in the Trimdon and District Sunday League their team base was Sedgefield Hardwick Hall and they played thier football under the name of Sedgefield Hardwick Hall Stars. The team spent two seasons there before leaving to play from the Black Lion then the Hope Inn where they continued under the original setup for the next five years.
The Club then became stucka as they had reached a point of where all the older players were retiring and they were also finding it hard to field a team and have people volunteer to run and organise the Club.
So in 2001 David Ryder and Ian Green whilst sat in the Hope Inn said “We’ll do it” so a new era had begun. New players on board and a Club sponsor (Carpets at Home) to help with finances the lads then spent the following three seasons finding out just how hard it is to run a Sunday morning football team.
In one season the Club actually finished on -2 points a draw on the last game of the season gave the Club their only point but due to an error filling in a team sheet correctly they were unfortunately and very harshly deduced 3 points..
The Club then went on to play from the Golden Lion for a season where they picked up a liitle and finished with 18pts.
But just up the road at the Crosshills pub they were in need of a change as their management team were retiring so it was decided that rather than have two teams struggling in the village David and Ian would combine both sets of players from the Crosshills and the Golden but play their football from the Crosshills. It was also decided that they would apply to play in the Durham League as the Trimdon League was becoming a bit stale to say the least.
So the new Crosshills F.C was born this season (2008/2009) will be their third year in the Durham League and everyone has loved every minute of it plus the Club fortunes on the pitch have improved massively.
Ian Green had decided to quit to spend more time with his wife although he has been spotted at Notty Hill golf course alot recently!!! so David is now helped by a committee of players and x players. (Ian Blakemore, Nicky Walker, Malcolm Dickenson, Craig Provett and Chris Lines)
In the Durham League the Club finished 10th in its first season on 28pts, last season the Club finished 8th on 37pts which was a massive achievement considering they had lost the first eleven matches, so in the remaining fifteen matches they ended up with stats of P15 W12 D1 L2 and overall P26 W12 D1 L13.
The Club now has a new sponsor NRL from Washington and this season the Club is very optimistic that a push for promotion is a possibility although they have lost two very important players in pre-season due to serious injuries the Club still thinks it has a strong enough squad to achieve promotion.
So onwards and upwards!!!
David Ryder,
Club Secretary/Tresurer and everything else!!!!
