FIRST LEAGUE WIN SO PLEASING FOR THE LADS !!!

Sherburn Lambton Arms 1 – 2 Sedgefield NETPark F.C

Unfortunately with me being on Holliday last week im writing this just after playing Rainton with the details of that fresh in my head so I’ll do what I can. After losing our first league game so narrowly we were desperate to get our first points on the board with a tough test away from home to Sherburn. It was a tough tackling first half with little in the way of goal mouth activity but very competitive with the referee doing little to ease the challenges going in. We had to reshuffle a little as they played with a five man midfield very often as the tall number ten was dropping into midfield so Macca was brought in from left back to mark him and was fantastic in his attempts all game giving nothing away.

At half time it was 0-0 and a very close game. We knew we were in a tough match up but everyone was up for the fight and we had the players who could make the difference going forward. Dan Piling was tremendous in the midfield with Peaty rock like at the back. Barber and Turlands form continues to be excellent whilst Richy Bland and Nick Walker were a threat down the flanks. Billy has really turned around his from since “that” game. We took the lead after neat interplay from Nick Walker and Pulla, which saw Pulla put a lovely ball into the box which was met and finished by Chris Barber. That goal settled us down and we played some excellent stuff in the second period despite a very aggressive opponent. We got the second as Stephen Turland broke clear then seemed to trip over the ball very un Cobra like but somehow managed to flick the ball brilliantly into the net from a prone position. We came close minutes after a fine ball from Dan Piling saw Turland drop the ball off deliciously for Barber but his first tie shot was wide.

The game got stupid in the last twenty minutes as a two footed lunge by the Sherburn player was met angrily by Lee Peat who reacted and we know he regrets it now. The Sherburn lad should have been sent off also. Ten minutes later and referee booked Pulla twice for offences and saw us go down to nine men. The referee was card happy in the second half and was disappointing all day. Sherburn scored late in the second half which meant we were up against the wall with 9 men but bravely hung on for the victory. Fantastic result from the lads lets push on from this now.
