3 WINS ON THE TROT FOR NETPARK

East Rainton 0 – 4 Sedgefield NETPark

Well yet another meeting with the Rainton lads as we drew them in cup after already playing them in pre season. I think were all on first name terms with them now and the games are always competitive but fair. We were still disappointed with the turn out but it bodes well that we still have players to come back and we put in performances like this. With 11 players available we knew extra time would not be favourable. Ryder had to get stripped for his second appearance in two years and Mally Dickenson was called to come and help out our weary legs and arrived in the second half and we were hugely grateful for it. Anyway we knew this was going to be a difficult game but were determined to put the pre season defeat to Rainton right and look to win this one.

We had a strong starting eleven and felt we could push Rainton for a win. However the opening twenty minutes saw Rainton look the better team as they got hold of the ball well and had a few early chances Jonathon Gaunt going close twice for them. We did look reasonably threatening on the break but only a couple of half chances. It was on the break that we took the lead probably against the run of play a huge kick by Darren Bill beat the defenders as Chris Barber latched onto it and headed it into corner past Tommy for 1-0. We started to get more and more into the game after this and at the end of the half it was evenly poised for either side to win this one. Spanna was pleased with the work rate and effort from the lads but just wanted a bit more concentration to push for this one.

The second half came and we started well which we had to because the next goal was going to be an important one. We got the goal we desperately wanted early in the second half as a ball came into the box from Kevin Broom and fell to Ste Turland whos shot went into the bottom right corner to put us 2-0 up. Something very unlike Raiton they seemed to give in a bit after that as we looked fairly comfortable after that, When Nick Walker broke down the right beating the full back his cross was brought down to Turland again and some nifty footwork allowed him to get a shot off into the top corner from about 10 yards. Mally Dicknson entered the fray and made an immediate impact breaking into to box beating two men then squaring it delightfully back to Nick Walker as I went for the first time shot scuffed the first attempt with my left foot but was pleased to get a second bite of the cheery with the right and finished comfortably to make it 4-0. We saw the game out and were delighted to get the victory. It was Rainton’s first defeat in 20 games so it was very pleasing to put a performance in that saw us win and continue our own momentum going back into the league games on Thursday. Well done lads and cheers to East Rainton who will be pushing right up there for promotion this season and im sure we will meet again. All the best.
