NETPark Out of the cup despite being behind for a total of 1 minute the entire game.

Leadgate win after 4-3 after extra time.

So the county cup was upon us with a lengthy trip up to Leadgate for the first round tie. We were disappointed to see a very depleted squad in terms of first team regulars available for selection. We were grateful for those that did turn up on the day as they were all needed during the game. Credit to the lads we were the better team throughout and led on 3 separate occasions. We started brilliantly scoring right from the off as Macca’s cross clipped the post came back out and Nick Walker latched onto the follow up slotting home from close range. We were and are prone to making silly mistakes at the moment and so it proved again when we conceded fairly quickly after taking the lead. The first half came and went with Darren Bill making some great saves and us wasting some wonderful opportunities to take the lead,

Into the second half and we continued to threaten going forward and it was NETPark who took the lead again the ever improving and impressive Dan Piling linked up well broke into the penalty area and crashed a left foot shot across the keeper into the corner for 2-1. Despite looking the better team we still made silly errors and once again found ourselves on level terms at 2-2. We still created chances and it was Chris Barber who put us ahead again after a sublime left cross from Pulla was met by Barbs and headed into the roof of the net making it 3-2. Just to top it off Dan Piling went so close to extending the lead then they went down the other end of the field and we conceded another with the score going to 3-3. Making things worse Nick Walker and Martin Broom had to be brought off through injury with Najib Amaira and Matthew Clarke having to come on playing out of position really.

Extra time was a very tight affair and looked all the way to be going to penalties as tiredness was setting in for both sides. The crucial moment came in the very last minute of extra time as we conceded a free kick about 25 yards out. Fair play to the Leadgate player he crashed a wonderful free kick into the top corner completely unstoppable worthy of winning any game. We did have a goal in the last minute ruled out but the referee gave a foul and it was so no complaints. Very hard to bare only being behind for a total of one minute in 120 but these things happen and we must sort out our silly mistakes.
